How to Get Free Food from DoorDash If You Lose Your SNAP Benefits

Millions of families in the United States are struggling to get enough food because their SNAP benefits (the program that helps people buy groceries) have been suspended due to a long federal government shutdown.

Although a court has made it possible for some emergency funding to continue these payments, not everyone who relies on SNAP benefits is getting help. So, other options are being explored.

One big response comes from DoorDash, a food delivery app. DoorDash is working to help affected households by launching a special relief program called the Food Emergency Response initiative through Project Dash.

DoorDash has promised to give away one million free meals using their network of partner food banks and pantries across the country.

Here’s how DoorDash is helping:

  • Free deliveries: DoorDash is offering free delivery for about 300,000 grocery orders made through its app. This applies if you shop at partner supermarkets like Sprouts, Wegmans, Food Lion, and Dollar General.
  • Direct food donations: DoorDash is also giving out food directly from its DashMart service to local food banks.

How to get DoorDash benefits:

If you’ve lost access to your SNAP benefits, you can get help from DoorDash by following these steps:

  • Make sure you have a SNAP/EBT card linked to your DoorDash account.
  • When ordering in the app, use the promo code SNAPDD to get your delivery fee waived.
  • Note: This offer is good until November 30, 2025, and each person can use it only once.

What happened to the SNAP program after the government shutdown?

When the government shut down, programs like SNAP, which help vulnerable people, were affected. Thanks to a court decision, the government now has to use emergency funds to cover SNAP payments for about half of the people who need them.

These benefits are supposed to start being delivered from November 5. If you are not covered by these emergency payments, you can use services like DoorDash for assistance.
