Three General Wellness Guidelines for the Pandemic

President Joe Biden's administration announced earlier this week that mandatory lock-downs, handed down from the federal government, look like they're on the horizon. A push to get everyone vaccinated is failing due to the fact that new variants are causing vaccine efficiency to plummet. This is reportedly leading to a spike in Coronavirus cases, and the government is threatening a repeat of 2020's closed nation. Last year saw millions of people struggle with their health, not because of the virus but because of bad habits at home. People were not doing enough to focus on their wellness.

There are quite a few things you can do to focus on your general health and well-being, and you do not need to go into a gym or get on some expensive program to make this a reality. With a little bit of diligence, you can improve your overall wellness by following a few simple guidelines.

Watch Your Sugar Intake

Sugar is not your friend. For decades in America, and most of the developed world, the sugar industry was propped up for profit, and reports have surfaced in recent years suggesting that scientists and doctors knew sugar was bad for you but kept it quiet. This practice is all too familiar, and it's hard to stay informed. Eliminating a lot of the sugars from your diet can greatly help with your wellness, however.

The average bottle of soda has around 50 grams of sugar, the same for those cupcakes and candy bars and other snacks. Sugar causes an insulin response from your pancreas, which then leads to inflammation in the body. As one might imagine, this is the exact opposite of wellness. Pay close attention to what you're putting into your body. Plan out your menus and find some healthier snacks. One of the best ways to ensure that you're improving your general well-being is to closely monitor and control your sugar intake.

Shop smarter, read food labels, and avoid things that are processed and heavy with sugars. There are plenty of alternatives on the market, and your body will reward you for choosing them over those high-sugar options.

Move Around As Much As Possible

In 2020, millions of people decided that if they were not allowed into a public gym, or couldn't even take their bike out to cycle around the neighborhood, then they would just stay home. This inactivity led to a lot of weight gain among the population, and there ended up being more health-related issues associated with poor lifestyles than from the virus. Experts suggest that moving around is often enough.

Getting an exercise bike or a treadmill for the home is a good move. Starting some landscaping projects or something that can keep you moving around the yard is a great way to stay mobile and to ensure that you're getting ample exercise. The more you move around, the more your immune system is boosted, along with the general wellness of your muscles, your respiratory system, and more. It's very important that the average person not adopt sedentary habits that are too immobile. It's important to stay on the move.

Sleep On a Schedule

You might be surprised to learn just how many people are getting too much sleep these days. They think it's a healthy thing. Conventional wisdom might suggest that getting more sleep is good, but it's really all about that schedule, according to most experts. With so many people still sheltering in place, not to mention 2020's nearly full year of mandatory lock-down stay-at-home orders, people's sleeping schedules were all over the place. They would grab a nap if tired, in the middle of the afternoon. After all, what else were they doing but sitting bored at home? Though these habits wreck the body's day-night rhythm and can end up harming your immune system.

Proper sleep is essential. Between 6 to 8 hours in a 24-hour span is best; though on a consistent schedule so your body stays in rhythm. Throwing this off throws your body's metabolism and minerals off. Your chemistry goes askew. Do the best you can to stick to a proper sleep schedule.

Wellness is not something that can be purchased nor is it a thing someone can hand you. It is something that you personally must accomplish. Americans might be in for another round of mandatory lock-downs, so keep these guidelines in mind to keep yourself as well as you can.
